Bailey came in with his sister Paige. Before coming to GLWR he and Paige were required to live in the basement of the house as the owner's spouse did not like large dogs and did not want them upstairs in the family area with her little dogs. They rarely got attention being only let out for potty breaks and missed having human contact. When she decided that they had to go they were going to be sent to the local dog pound. That is when a relative of the owner stepped in to help them. They were moved to the in-laws unheated pole barn and placed in a makeshift pen on cement and given a few weeks for her to find a solution other than the animal pound. You see, they were not really welcome or wanted there either. The relative contacted GLWR and, of course, we stepped right up to help these two lost souls. Bailey and Paige have been together for several years and ideally we would love to have them stay together but in the right environment they will do okay separated from each other as well. Bailey is a big lover boy who wants to always be where you are. He is able to be allowed to free roam the house and safe to wander on his own (he normally sleeps when you are not home). When outside with him once he is bonded he has great recall. He loves to go for walks outdoors and amble around sniffing whatever is in the air. While he does okay with other dogs in the home if not placed with his sister Paige he may do best as an only dog. Sometimes when napping or sleeping if he is approached or startled by another dog he can get grumbly and may growl or snap at them. He does mind and listens well to his humans and likes to please. Bailey especially loves children! He is a bigger blue boy and while his health overall is good he does have some rough skin patches and scars on this elbows and legs from his years living on cement. Also, as typical for more senior weims he has a few fatty lumps and bumps out as well. Overall, Bailey is looking for a loving lower activity home where he can enjoy being loved, spoiled and pampered a bit. If you think you might like to welcome Bailey to your home and family (perhaps with sister Paige too?) please contact us - we would love to talk with you! Hey there meet Ms Chloe!! CHloe is a young girl and quite the comicallittle "spitfire"! She has athletic ability that will blow your socks off! This little girl can leap three feet into the air and sail over obstacles like she is flying! She would make an absolutely awesome agility or versatility dog! She is very smart and learns quickly and love sto play and have fun. Her favorite game is to play/catch hid seek with her foster folks. She can wait until the last minute and pounce and bounce with "catlike" reflexes. Chloe is excellent and quite in her crate and has no issues being crated while you are away until you and her have built up the trust factor to leave her free roam in our home. Chloe is a delightful, happy, silly little girl! Due to her quick reflexes we are recommending that she be placed in an adult only home and with someone that has good training skills and the patience to work with her. We truly feel that with the right mentor Chloe could be one amazing little girl. The caveat to Chloe is that she has a dominant personality and has never been well socialized around other dogs. She does not understand boundaries of greeting other dogs and how to play often misreading the other dogs behaviors. She is very responsive to correction and we feel that with patience, time and a strong human lead she can overcome her dog-dog meeting issues. We do not want to give up on Chloe and feel that she deserves a chance for the right adopter to find her! We would love to find someone to give her that chance. If you have a professional CPT or strong training performance dog training background and feel that you could help Chloe blossom to be the kind of amazing girl we think she could be please contact us for an application. We and Chloe would love to chat with you! Kylo is a big handsome boy! He is a larger than average weim with a personality to match! He does well on leash with a familiar and strong human. Kylo is still distracted by all manner of sensory stimuli so will need continued consistent leash training. Kylo wasn't introduced to many dogs at his previous home so while he is doing great with other dogs in his foster home introductions need to be made slowly so he is comfortable and not frightened by his new friends. He still displays some fear of certain dogs on the trail and so continued leash training and walks will continue to build his confidence. Kylo has met several new dogs, individually, at his foster home. After several ‘play dates’ with each dog, they all came over for a visit at the same time. Kylo was very comfortable and playful. Kylo is a somewhat submissive dog and so while another dog in the home with him is great he will not do well with a dog that has a dominant personality. He needs to be able to hang with a buddy that has a personality that is more laid back like his. Also, Kylo has shown an interest in learning how to catch a ball. Ball catching is foster brother Ole’s profession and Kylo was losing his mind watching Ole. So far, Kylo has only learned how to stop the ball with his face but is eager and very insistent that we continue his training. He aspires to be a great "ball" dog someday in his future! If you think that you might be able to provide a fun loving home with the ability to continue his socialization and training then you and Kylo may be a good match!! Kylo is currently being fostered in Fort Wayne, Indiana.   Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue is an all volunteer, nonprofit group whose primary mission is to help with the rescue and placement of Weims in the Great Lakes region; including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ontario.   GLWR is headquartered in Michigan with a network of foster homes in our State & Country Chapters. Meet Paige! Paige is a very sweet ole girl. Paige came in with her brother Bailey. Paige and Bailey have been together for several years and ideally we would love to have them stay together but in the right environment they will do okay separated from each other as well. Paige is a quiet, gentle soul that is looking for a home that will provide comfort and love for her in her golden years. She is happy just to lay in the sunshine or on a soft spot on the couch or in the easy chair. Paige is a very passive girl and loves everyone and everything. She is wonderful with children and other dogs. She got a pooh bear for Christmas and just loves to "nook" on it daily . She listens very well and has great recall preferring to stay close to her humans. reccall. Paige can free roam around the house no problems. Paige also does well with basic commands and is responsive. While she has no major known health issues she is in her senior years and is not as pry as she used to be. If you think you could open your heart and home to paige (perhaps with bailey) we would love to hear from you. With Paige your payback for being adopted by this senior girl will be tenfold in companionship and unconditional love. Say "hello" to Remington aka "Remi"! Remi is a sweet boy that came to GLWR from a shelter in Ohio. Remi tends to have a bit of a weight problem and really needs someone who is going to be able to get him out for some much needed sustained and aerobic exercise. He has a great "sniffer" and loves to meander around the yard at his own comfy pace but he needs someone who is going to be willing to push him to pick up the pace a bit. Remi also has a very thin hair coat. GLWR has had him checked for his thyroid and general auto immune issues and all came up normal. Remi is overall a happy boy and likes people (he is kind of a big ham) but is not overly fond of those under a couple feet tall and mobile. They tend to be a bit to animated for him. Therefore, we are looking preferable for an adult only active but quiet home with minimal traffic for him. He does a relatively good job following commands and can execute the basics. He had decent recall unless he really has his nose on something then his hearing gets a bit more selective! remi cna free roam your house without issue and although he may do best as an only dog with the right companion (he is with another non-dominant male weim now and they get along great) he will do just fine. Outside of that, Remi is a affectionate boy who loves to be affectionate and has a fun, happy personality. We would love to see him get into a home with someone who wants a slower paced daily walking companion that can just let Remi be himself. If you think you may be a good match for Remington please connect with us and complete an application. Remi would love to meet you! My name is Thor and I am a beautiful, soon to be 4-year-old male that is as sweet as they come! I came to GLWR when I was 5 months old with an inherited congenital birth defect called Myelodysplasia (spinal dysraphism), which is nothing more than an incomplete formation of the neural tube (spinal cord) from some abnormality in my genetic makeup. Some of my neural pathways are incomplete and so I can have some sensory challenges. It is a non-degenerative albeit permanent condition that will not worsen and I am not in any pain. I do not take any medication but I do benefit from occasional chiropractic adjustments and have also has some acupuncture therapy that has been helpful in the past. I have progressed to full autonomy and far exceeded everyone's expectations for my mobility. I do tend to tire prematurely when I play but I do LOVE to play with balls, sticks and my canine friends in a game of chase in the yard. Staying in a routine helps me with my potty breaks and with a standard household routine I live a pretty normal life! an. Outside of that I am a well socialized and happy and a typical young weim. I will always be a special needs dog and will require regular, long-term homeopathic vet care. My adopters must commit to financially supporting my medical needs (chiropractic mostly), in addition to meeting my daily needs, which include specific potty duties and sometimes washing. If you can help keep a routine my maintenance is pretty normal! In return, I promise to love and cherish you with all of my great big Weimy heart! I need baby gates in front of all the steps except for the ones to get outside because, in general, stairs are difficult for me as they require coordination that sometimes is difficult when going up and down. My foster family has worked very hard with me, investing time, patience, and love to build my strength. The results have been nothing short of a miracle. Some more things about me...I like to go for walks and can go up to three miles. I also love walks on the beach or in the woods. When I get tired, I begin to hop. I am crate trained and that is where I am when my foster parents go to work, but I am let out once during the day. I would love to find someone who works from home, is semi- or retired, or has a capable, responsible dog walker because three to four hours is my maximum crate time. My favorite thing in the world is a nasty looking soccer ball. I love playing chase with that ball. After potty and exercise time I like to hang out with my foster family and watch TV, just like any other Weim! I have not been able to get on the couch, but I love when someone comes to sit on the floor with me. I have a never ending appreciation for the care and attention that I get that helps me live a great dog life. I get along great with kids and other dogs. I would not do well in a home with stairs or hardwood, laminate or tiled floors. I really need a home with as much carpet as possible. If you think your heart and home has room for a sweet, lovable boy, please contact GLWR. I would love to find my forever family!
